Product Description
Blister packaging is extensively used in the consumer goods and pharmaceutical industries due to the special type of protection it offers to the product. During the manufacturing process, called thermoforming, a plastic sheet is heated to a temperature which enables flexible forming of the material to a specific shape in a mold. Examples of blister packaging are unit dose packs, carded blister packs and clamshells.
The key features of blister packaging are the visibility, protection and longevity it provides.
Visibility:Blister packaging typically consists of a clear, plastic mold forming a see-through cavity in which the product is encased, thus making it perfectly visible to the consumer. Visibility makes blister packaging ideal for retail display and marketing purposes.
Reinforced protection:Blister packaging is reinforced by one of two ways: (1) by joining a paper board or aluminum sheet to the plastic mold, thus sealing the product in, or (2) by joining two thick-layered half-molds together around a hinge to create a clamshell package, with a blister card in between the two half-molds. Blister packaging thence provides effective protection against mishandling and renders the packaged product tamper-proof.
Longevity:The fully enclosed protection provided by blister packaging also keeps the product completely sealed from its external environment, thus extending the shelf-life of many products and keeping them both safe and suitable for long-term display or storage.
